Jason Giambi: You Go, Girl!
At a 45-minute press conference, baseball player and New York Yankee Jason Giambi apologized to the public, the media, the fans, his teammates and ownership.
It sounded good but not one mention of steroids use was ever in this conference. So just what is it he was apologizing for, and implying asking for forgiveness?
It seems that this whole thing was an empty gesture. Never once did he mention the word steroids or the phrase “steroids use”. This was all double talk. He shouldn’t even have bothered with this press conference at all. Any sports fan will see this as the phony exercise that it is.
This press conference wasn’t about saving the integrity of baseball. It was about Jason Giambi saving his own professional ass and career. The overall integrity of baseball didn’t appear to be a top concern of alleged steroids user Jason Giambi. I doubt that it ever was.
The integrity of baseball was not served by this Giambi press conference. It would have been better had Jason Giambi not even bothered wasting everybody’s time with this farce; because that’s what this whole thing was.
How about some integrity for a change? Jason Giambi would have been far better off coming clean and acting like a man and taking responsibility rather than doing this superficial exercise in doubletalk.
There are some who claim that he couldn’t say anything about steroids without legal repercussions and his legal counsel tied his hands. That doesn’t help Giambi at all either.
Lawyers today have very little popularity and public stature to be proud of, and Giambi now is hiding behind his attorney’s apron strings.
And now he’s not only superficial, he’s greedy enough to protect his fat, long-term contract while he weans himself off steroids use and relies on his own ability again.
Or maybe, after Giambi’s baseball career is over, he could go into politics and the Democratic Party in New York where doubletalk is common.
Doubletalk is more suitable in politics than in sports. Jason Giambi, you go, GIRL!
